  • Report: Over the last two weeks, fishing has ranged from fantastic to just average, with fish actually being seen on the banks swimming around and spawning. The monster fish being seen, unfortunately, are not biting as they should or as we would want them to. Mike McVay and Bill Hicks group flying private out of Hobbs, New Mexico were catching up to 100 fish a day, with around a half a dozen over 10 lbs. caught within their group. The big group out of Memphis, Jeff Howell, had below-average catches, with the big fish bite slowing way down. Jeff and his core group of four did manage a fish over 10 and some nice ones over 9, fishing senkos and flukes.

  • Report: Chester Graham group had another fabulous trip – with every boat the first day catching around fifty fish; unfortunately most of them were small. Day two, fishing close to the bank, they started seeing a lot bigger fish and by day three, 90% of the bass were females being caught one to two feet from the bank in less than two feet of water and boats were catching between 80 and 100 fish a day. Chester once again won the big bass pot and also had 25 fish over 6 lbs. Big Senkos, swimming flukes and very light scroungers were the ticket.

  • Report: Narlin is reporting some improved bass fishing action on Baccarac with plenty of 5 to 7 pounders to go around. With the excellent spawn last year, there is a large number of smaller fish on the banks. Several nice 10 pound plus bass have been caught with guide Sixto getting the prize for the number 1 guide over the last couple of weeks putting James Meeks on a giant 11.3 lber. Fishing will only improve in the coming weeks. Call (541) 296-3962 to reserve your dates at Trophy Lake Baccarac.

  • Report: This quote from Dan Burns: “I fished El Salto for two days, caught nothing but 1 ½ and 2 lb. bass. I was immediately rescued by your guys, brought to Lake Baccarac and on my first cast, caught an amazing 11.4 lb. bass. We averaged 20 fish in the morning and 20 to 25 fish every afternoon at Baccarac. I will never go to another lake.“ The last two weeks has offered everything from a real slow bite to some phenomenal big fish coming from the guys who wanted to work hard for the fishing. Our good doctor friends from Chihuahua who dedicated themselves to fishing hard and deep and fishing with their favorite guide, Enrique, were rewarded with the best catches we have seen this calendar year. Where else can you catch 60 something fish between 5 and 8 lbs. Watermelon lizards, 7 and 9 inch Senkos, along with 4 inch flukes tipped on the end of a scrounger and even some fantastic crank bait fishing.

  • Report: Paralleling what they did last year by using Alabama rigs, targeting schools of shad, Jason and his partners produced pictures and stories of many large bass, some boats catching 20 fish a day while others caught 80 fish a day. The 8, 9 and 10 pound bass we're plentiful for this group. Watermelon lizards produced great numbers running the banks. Baccarac is poised to have a fantastic spring and we hope you come see us! Lots of good numbers at the Lake currently, waiting on the big fish to show up again.

  • Report: The famous Lake Baccarac 10 pound bass have not been showing up but we are getting a good number of 8 and 9 pound fish. The even better news is the good number of small and medium sized largemouth we have been catching. The mid-December rains have really helped the level of the lake and we suspect that it will suppress the fishing action by a couple of more weeks but we should be in for a great season of spring bass fishing. The best baits right now are lizards, Senkos, Scroungers and, of course the Alabama rig.

  • Report: If you have ever thought about going to Lake Baccarac to catch Trophy Bass, I suggest you read the following from my good client Earl Rideau: "I've fished most of the popular lakes in Mexico, including El Salto, none even come close to the quality and fight of the fish in Baccarac. Even a three day trip will give you the "opportunity" to catch a 10 lbs.+ bass. On my last trip I fished 5 days and caught 24 fish over 10 lbs! I had one day where 5 bass went 65 lbs (not incl. my big fish of the trip which was 17.25 lbs.), another where I had 62 lbs. and a third where I had 55 lbs. To "catch" almost every big fish you hook fish light saltwater tackle like the Shimano Calcutta 400 with a 6.5-7 ft. med. stiff to stiff rod, 50-65lbs. braided line with a 25-30 lbs. fluorocarbon leader with BIG baits." Good Luck!

  • Report: The first time in a long time that I can remember where we needed to use heaters in the rooms. The bass fishing on Baccarac has gone from excellent to good to slow the last four days. Kelly Dunn, Stan Byquist, along with our Japanese bass anglers arrived the day the northern blew in. The week before, we were catching 80 to 100 fish a day and now we are struggling to catch 20 bass a day, most of those less than five pounds. The big fish have obviously gone deep into the creek channels and we may not see them for a little while.

  • Report: The last few days have been great for Gary McNiel’s group. Ed Smith and his son fishing, along with Al Levonchuck had outstanding bass fishing on Lake Baccarac with plenty of six to eight pound largemouth caught along with several fish over nine pounds brought to the boat. The main lake points are holding the majority of the bass and the weather is a little cool for Mexico. Still better than what we're experiencing up north. Come on down for some Mexican heat and trophy bass fishing!

  • Report: Narlin Salazar found the big bass fishing technique. It had been slow but Tag Watson killed them using Alabama rigs and spinner baits, reporting the best day of his fishing life. Narlin's method of casting away from the bank and into deeper water was the key for catching multiple 9 pound largemouth, many 10s and missing a real trophy bass that Tag says is the biggest fish he had ever seen.

  • Date: October 30th, 2013
  • Name: Lake Baccarac, Mexico
  • Hottest Baits:  Worms / Lizards - Ratl Traps Chrome
  • Best Colors: White, Watermelon Flukes
  • Date Fished: October, 2013
  • Report: It has been typical Lake Baccarac fishing lately. Some very good days; some very poor. Last week the Archbald group had mixed results, but did manage ten bass over 10 pounds and a 12.6 pounder part of the mix. Texas rigged lizards at Rancho Padre allowed forbetter production, with some boats catching 80 to 100 largemouth a day. The bigger fish were caught on watermelon colored Magnum flukes. Guide Manuel, fishing with a 3/8 oz. Scrounger tipped with a white 4 inch fluke, did very well. The ratl traps, chrome with a black back and chrome with a blue back was the best bait for the mid-sized 4 to 7 lb. bass. Dave McKinney group, who in the past have had incredible luck targeting big bass, struggled recently and experienced slow fishing. It seems like the last three days are a total 180 degrees from last week, with fewer bass being caught. The water has started falling as they are filling up the irrigation canals and the lake level is still roughly 80%.

  • Report: With Lake Baccarac holding at about 80% capacity and the temperatures in the low 90s, bass fishing is as we expected – lots of surface activity as fish are cornering shad and chasing them to the top. Although these fish will not take a topwater bait, the schooling bass can be caught using 3/4 and 1 oz. chrome ratl traps. Yesterday, four largemouth between 8 and 11 pounds were caught on ratl traps in the cove Papachaw. With the stable level, fish have been suspended in 25 feet of water out in the main lake. A lot of these bass are catchable with watermelon lizards and watermelon worms, along with bouncing white double-bladed spinnerbaits on the bottom. Just sticking with a worm for the day, currently no problem catching between 20 and 50 fish per day. We have some prime dates available on private charters landing 10 minutes from the lodge.
